The 2024 Mustang represents the seventh generation of the iconic pony car that spawned our love of muscle cars.

Ford has aimed the new Ecoboost at the everyday driver who wants to drive an iconic car with excellent performance but would like an easy car to drive, minus the stick shift. Ford has aimed the Ecoboost at an entirely different market to the GT, which comes with a choice of manual or automatic transmissions.

Notable Changes From the Previous Year

Notable Changes From the Previous Year

The exterior of the Ecoboost has mostly stayed the same. Top of the list of subtle changes is the sharpening of the body lines. The long hood line, gaping grille, tri-bar headlights, and wide rear give the new Mustang a rugged look that screams ‘muscle car.’

The Mustang starts in the Ecoboost trim, with Ecoboost being Ford-speak for turbocharged. The Ecoboost trims come with a 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbo engine that makes 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft torque. This superb motor is mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. This engine gives 10.8 L/100km around town and 7.1 L/100km on the highway.

There’s an optional Performance Package that adds several parts to enhance the handline. These include a limited-slip diff, wider wheels and tyres, larger Brembo Brakes, front strut-tower brace, and active damping suspension.

Trims

There are four trims available for 2024. The Ecoboost Fastback is the lowest priced at $39,415*, with the Ecoboost Fastback Premium Trim coming in at $45,395*.

The EcoBoost Convertible starts at $46,0951*, with the EcoBoost Convertible Premium trim starting at $50,695*.

Infotainment and Technology Features

This is a significant improvement over previous generations. Ford’s upgraded Sync 4 software plays on a 13.2-inch infotainment screen behind a curved glass panel that flows toward the centre of the dash from the driver’s instrument screen. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard features, and apart from three USB charging ports, there’s a wireless charging pad in the Premium trims.

The infotainment system can run voice commands via either Amazon’s Alexa or Ford Streaming. The sound system has six speakers at the base model, with an option to increase the number of speakers. The Premium trims can upgrade the sound system to a 12-speaker B&O setup and have navigation installed.

A great new feature is Active Pothole Mitigation, which is part of the Performance Pack. Active Pothole Mitigation monitors aspects of the vehicle, such as steering, body, braking and suspension, and then adjusts the suspension according to the sensor input.

Interior Comfort and Cargo Space

Interior Comfort and Cargo Space

The interior of the Mustang has undergone a major upgrade with “fighter-jet-inspired” layouts that favour the driver. The front seats are cloth-covered in the entry trims, but leather is an option for Premium trims. In the Premium trim, the seats are both heated and cooled.

The driver gets a 12.4-inch cluster, which is customizable with options to select colours and gauges. The rear bench seat has a 50/50 split, and in the Fastback, the trunk offers a very respectable 13.3 cubic feet of cargo space.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

Previous generations of the Mustang have been known as safe cars, and while the latest generation has yet to be tested by NHTSA or the IIHS, the 2023 model has a five-star rating from NHTSA and a good rating from IIHS.

To avoid accidents, Ford has given the Mustang an inclusive set of driver assistance aids and safety features. The Ford Co-Pilot360 pack is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, evasive steering, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic warning, and lane management. There are also sensors to aid parking at the front and rear and a rear-view camera.

Customers who subscribe to the FordPass app also get remote door lock, unlock, engine start, and vehicle location.

Pony Power in A Cool Package

This new Mustang slings to Ford’s goal of looking cool and going fast. The new look body, coupled with the great performance and high levels of technology, make the Ecoboost a desirable, safe and dynamic car to drive. Come into Riverview Ford Lincoln and look at the new generation Mustang. You won’t regret it.
